Did hero teacher prevented massacre at Washington school? Student account reveals how she grabbed arm of gunman, 15, as he reloaded after shooting five classmates in cafeteria

This is the teacher who is said to have heroically accosted a 15-year-old boy as he fired bullets across his high school cafeteria. Megan Silberberger ran into the room after hearing Jaylen Fryberg shoot dead one classmate and critically wound four others. Students dived for cover and others fled but as the popular teenager stopped to reload his gun, witnesses told KIRO-TV, Silberberger walked over and grabbed his arm. In a two-second struggle, Fryberg is said to have pointed the gun at her before shooting himself dead. The shocking account suggests Silberger, a first year social services teacher and part-time soccer player, may have prevented a massacre at the Washington school. Nonetheless, hundreds of students, teachers and parents piled into a nearby church tonight for a candlelit vigil as the community reels in shock struggling to cope with the tragic loss of two lives as four teenagers are treated in hospital.

I don’t mind dating a younger man now –Ara

Now single drummer girl, Ara, has said she is ready to give marriage another shot now that she and her once Iceland-based hubby have divorced. In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats recently, Ara said she wouldn’t even mind going for a younger guy if he comes around her. “When I meet the right person and fall in love, I will consider marriage. I really want to fall in love again. I don’t believe in marriage just for its sake. If a younger guy comes up to me, I don’t mind dating the person. I don’t mind marrying somebody who I am older than. I have spoken to a couple of people and they don’t see anything wrong with it. If the person has a mature mind and is committed, then it is not a big deal.” When asked if she is not looking for somebody who she can control and manipulate, the singer said she is not the overbearing type and she never exhibited such trait in her former marriage. “I am not that kind of person. I am the most submissive wife. I am ‘mumu’ for love. You can ask my ex, he can tell you. There was never a day I didn’t ask him what I should cook even though I was the breadwinner. I would always ask him what he wanted. And whatever he said, if we didn’t have it, I would jump on an okada and enter the market to go and buy the stuff. I am a hopeless lover,” she said. Ara revealed that she and her ex are still “good friends” because, “we have a child together. My boy is six years already. He has remarried. I am not envious that he got married again. God forbid! When he calls me, I always ask him if his wife isn’t around. I would also ask him if his wife knows that I am not interested in him. I don’t know her and I don’t know her name. I wouldn’t want her to feel I want to take her husband again. So I tell him I hope the wife knows that I am not interested and that his calling me is just to find out about his son. I wouldn’t want to make any woman unhappy.

Building collapse: T.B. Joshua, contractor face coroner Nov 5

The founder and General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor T.B. Joshua, has been slated to appear before the coroner investigating the cause of the church’s building that collapsed on September 12, 2014. Joshua will be appearing on November 5, 2014 alongside the contractor handling the collapsed six-storey building. No fewer than 115 died in the collapsed building. The coroner, Magistrate O.A. Komolafe, during the sitting of the court on Friday, stated that the appearance of the church’s founder was important to the findings of the court. Though counsel to the church, Mr. Jude Nnadi, said Joshua’s appearance would not be necessary because he was not an eyewitness to the incident, Komolafe insisted that he must appear. The magistrate, who said he had heard that Joshua had addressed the press at various times, said he must also appear before the court to give evidence. Komolafe said, “We have heard that he has been addressing the press at various times, let him come and address the court. “The court has summoned him, let him come and tell us what he knows. He cannot sit over there and be sending words to us that he cannot come. “The court has said that for the purpose of what we are doing that he should come over.” Meanwhile, a Chief Operational Officer with the Lagos State Fire Service, Adebayo Musiliu, told the court on Friday that his observation revealed that the building did not collapse as a result of explosion. Musiliu, who said he has 34 years of experience in rescue operation, insisted that there was nothing to suggest that the accident occurred as a result of explosion. He said, “All the bodies recovered were not dismembered or burnt. There were also no scattered bricks. The floors and pillars were also not shattered; rather the six-storey collapsed on top of each other. The collapsed building did not depict any sign of explosion or implosion.”

Microsoft Co-Founder To Donate N164M

Amid calls by the World Health Organization for an increase in aid to fight the current Ebola outbreak, Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen has said that he will donate $100 million (164,669,771.24) to efforts against the disease. Allen had previously donated $26 million to the effort but said that more needs to be done to prevent the outbreak from becoming a global epidemic. Programs would also be created to train doctors in Massachusetts and special containment units would be built to evacuate anyone who gets infected. Allen said: “The Ebola virus is unlike any health crisis we have ever experienced and needs a response unlike anything we have ever seen,” “To effectively contain this outbreak and prevent it from becoming a global epidemic, we must pool our efforts to raise the funds, coordinate the resources and develop the creative solutions needed to combat this problem. I am committed to doing my part in tackling this crisis.” “We really wanted to increase the number of health care workers in West Africa." Allen joins colleague Bill Gates, who has committed $60 million to the cause and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg who contributed $25 million. Ebola has killed almost 5000 people and the WHO has warned that the situation would only grow worse if urgent measures are not implemented.
