60 APC Reps form human shield around Tambuwal
Following the withdrawal of the security details attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, 60 All Progressives Congress members of the House now move around with him to serve as security for the Speaker.
SUNDAY PUNCH learnt the 60 Reps have been accompanying Tambuwal around Abuja to protect him against potential security threats.
The lawmakers do not only drive along with him in a motorcade, they also form a shield around Tambuwal to protect him.
Tambuwal had, on Tuesday in Abuja formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, following weeks of speculation and intrigues.
One of the lawmakers providing shield for Tambuwal, Mr. Ahmad Ali, said, “We are covering him and we will continue to fight this illegality until it is quashed.
“We all went with him to the (Federal High) court today (Friday) to challenge the withdrawal of his security personnel.”
Ali, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Justice, said the members would do everything within their power to protect Tambuwal.
Tambuwal and the APC have since defended his defection, claiming that the PDP had factions, in addition to arguing that the courts have yet to resolve pending cases on defection before them.
It was also learnt that the speaker and his loyalists were working to ensure that the alleged plot by the Presidency and the PDP caucus to reconvene the House before December 3 is frustrated.
Tambuwal had adjourned the House till December 3 soon after he defected to the APC from the PDP on Tuesday last week, a decision that did not go down well with the Presidency and the PDP leadership.

Boko Haram kills 18 in Borno/Adamawa community
Eighteen persons have been killed by suspected members of the Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram, in Uba town, in a fresh attack on the southern part of the troubled Borno State, Mala Isa, a member of the youth vigilance group, revealed on Saturday.
According to him, the insurgents stormed Uba in convoy of many vehicles and went about killing everyone in sight.
Isa said, “As they approached, news filtered in and the people fled in droves. On arrival, the terrorists threw explosives into many houses.”
He added that he was told by some of the vigilante residents in Uba that the insurgents killed 18 persons and destroyed many houses.
A resident of the town, Mohammed Aliyu, who spoke on the telephone to journalists, said, “I personally counted at least 18 corpses while fleeing that were lying on the streets. I also saw many others, who were injured.”
Uba falls in both Adamawa and Borno states and just few days ago, the town was attacked by the sect members.
More than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram have been married off to jihadists, claims leader of Islamic extremists
More than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram have been married off to militants, according to a man claiming to be the leader of the Islamic extremists.
The man, who identifies himself as Abubakar Shekau, said the 219 girls, who were taken from the remote northeastern town of Chibok in April, are now 'in their marital homes'.
He added that they have all converted to Islam and have now memorised two chapters of the Koran.
He said: 'We have married them off. They are in their marital homes. Don't you know the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls have converted to Islam?'
The claims, which were published in a video seen today, contradict recent claims by the Nigerian government that the girls would soon be freed.
They call into question whether talks between a Boko Haram faction and the government in neighbouring Chad will secure the girls' release.
The man claiming to be Shekau, who the Nigerian military says it killed a year ago, also denied there was a ceasefire.
Violence has continued since the government announced the agreement, raising doubts about how much influence Danladi Ahmadu, the man with whom the govenment is negotiating, has over the group.
Shekau also announced that Boko Haram, which means 'Western education is sinful', was holding a German hostage after kidnapping him from the northeastern city of Gombe in July.
Armed militants, understood to be linked to Boko Haram, kidnapped the teacher from a technical college.

The father can be seen smiling with delight in the photo as he watches his innocent child kick the severed head.

The severed head, which is too gruesome to show in full detail, appears to be several days old.

Suitors ran away when they saw my children –Iya Rainbow
Veteran actress Idowu Phillips popularly known as Iya Rainbow tells Ademola Olonilua about her career and life as a widow
How did you get the stage name Iya Rainbow?
The name of my late husband’s group is Osumare Theatre and I was always referred to as Mama Osumare but there was a day I did a movie for the English-speaking section of the industry and the name of the film is The Vow. In the movie, robbers came to my house and killed my child and I was meant to react like anyone would in real life. I cried and tore my clothes. After the director yelled cut, I was still crying, so some Igbo boys on set came to ask why I was still crying. They wanted to call my name but could not pronounce Osumare, so I told them it meant rainbow in English. They were amazed and said they would be calling me Mama Rainbow which they felt was easier and that was how the name stuck.
