Jonathan’s critics need psychiatric test – Okupe

President Goodluck Jonathan’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, said on Tuesday that critics of the President needed to be examined by psychiatrists.
Okupe said this while reacting to the statement by a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in which the ex-VP raised the alarm over the activities of the members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in the North-East.
Atiku had alleged that if the activities of the insurgents were not quickly curtailed, they could overrun the entire region.
He also berated the leadership of the country, wondering what it had been doing to curtail the criminal activities of the members of the sect.
But Okupe said such statements were not expected from Atiku, who the presidential aide said had been part of the system.
He said, “Those people saying that this government is clueless need psychiatric test. From now on, anybody who says this government is clueless should be referred to a psychiatrist.
“It is obvious that people are also trying to make mileage of insurgency. On Monday, a very notable member of the Nigerian leadership institution, in particular Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, took a swipe at the Federal Government and at the President.
“You know, it’s difficult to comment publicly about people who have held very important and highly dignified position in our polity, but when people go to the extent of trying to make political gains out of national tragedy, it is difficult not to say something because this is part of the misinformation which the Nigerian public has been subjected to.

Policeman Crushes Wife's Legs; Kills Baby Over N2,000

For allegedly taking the sum of N2,000 from her husband's pocket without telling him, a 30-year-old housewife, Dupe Ikharia, has had her legs crushed by her police officer husband, Lucky Ikharia, who also murdered their baby in the process before attempting to kill himself.
The 34-year-old officer attached to the Makinde Police Division, Oshodi, Lagos, had allegedly used his bus to run over his wife several times, and thinking he had killed her, fled the scene, went home and stabbed his baby son, David to death, ripping the toddler's intestines, before turning the knife on himself in an attempt to take his life.
Lucky, who luckily did not die from his self inflicted wounds, is no where to be found while his wife, is said to be in a critical condition.
The incidence which occurred at the family’s rented apartment in Kale Close, Mafoluku, Oshodi, on October 30, 2014, is still sending ripples down the spines of those who knew the otherwise calm police officer who must have allowed the devil to take a hold of him.
Punch Metro reports that four days prior to the incident, Lucky, who hails from Sabon Gida Ora, Edo State, had a quarrel with his wife, Dupe, over the missing N2,000, after which he reportedly sent her packing. The policeman, had also ‘seized’ their only child from Dupe as a means of ‘punishing’ her.
At about 8pm on the day of the attack, Dupe, an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, was heading for her mother’s house in Mushin, unknown to her that Lucky was waiting in a bus to attack her. It was learnt that on getting to Olorunshogo junction, Lucky pursued his wife with the bus, crushing her legs in the process.
Leaving her for dead, Lucky was said to have fled the scene while passersby initially thought the attack was random. However, after Dupe was rushed to a nearby hospital on same evening for treatment and had regained consciousness the following morning, she explained that the man who drove the bus which crushed her legs was her own husband.

The woman who earns £10,000 a year by entering competitions: Mother wins holidays, TVs and clothes by spending eight hours a day entering online contests (and even paid for her wedding)

Holly Smith, from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, suffers from a rare stomach condition and a tumour in her leg which restricts her ability to hold down a job. But to help support her husband Callum and two children, she spends the equivalent of a working day each day trawling the internet for competitions and cash saving coupons - entering as many as 800 competitions a day. So far she has won a trip to Gran Canaria through a Kellogg's competition worth £2,500 and her £70,000 haul of goodies has also included fridge freezers, washing machines, TVs and Nintendo Wii's. Even her own wedding (top right) was subsidised by her love of coupons and competitions.

B’Haram renames Mubi, rejects polls in Adamawa

Militant Islamist sect, Boko Haram, has renamed Mubi as ‘Madinatul Islam,” meaning the city of Islam.
The action is further confirmation that the sect was in total control of the town which it recaptured last week after troops stationed there withdrew. Boko Haram had earlier hoisted its flag in some parts of the town, including the Palace of the Emir, which serves as its administration headquarters.
On Monday, the sect announced the introduction of Sharia and the amputation of 10 people in the town, the second largest in the state.
A trapped resident, Aliyu Bala, who disclosed the renaming of Mubi on Tuesday, also said that the sect had set up check-points in strategic parts of the community.
“They are keeping vigil in every nook and cranny of the town and calling on residents who ran away to come back to their homes. They are also asking those in communities in the four Local Government Areas which they captured to return because their safety will be assured,” Bala added.
He said that despite the assurance that they would be better protected under an Islamic Caliphate, some residents of Mubi, who stayed back when the insurgents stormed the town,   were sneaking out.
