Ferguson riots: Ruling sparks night of violence


The US town of Ferguson has seen rioting and looting after a jury decided not to bring charges over the killing of a black teenager.
Michael Brown was shot by a white police officer, Darren Wilson, on 9 August, sparking protests.
A police chief said violence in the suburb of St Louis, Missouri, was "probably much worse" than on any night since the teenager's death.

Nigerian opposition APC condemns Lagos office raid

Nigeria's main opposition party has condemned a weekend raid of its Lagos offices by state security agents.

"We call for an independent commission of inquiry to ascertain the reasons why armed officers raided our office," the All Progressive Congress (APC) deputy chairman Lawal Shuaibu told the BBC.

The party said computers were destroyed and documents seized during the raid.

The State Security Service said it was investigating alleged cloning of voter cards, ahead of elections in February.


Al-Shabab denies Kenya reprisal over bus raid






Somalia’s rebel group, al-Shabab, has denied claims by Kenyan authorities that more than 100 of their fighters, who allegedly masterminded an attack on a bus in northern Kenya, were killed by Kenyan forces.
Deputy President William Ruto said on Sunday that his country’s armed forces carried out a cross-border attack in which they targeted the perpetrators of Saturday’s attack in which 28 bus passengers were killed near the town of Mandera.
