Ekiti boils again: Market set on fire, Hausa community evacuated

THE relative peace that was witnessed in Ado Ekiti ,Ekiti State capital after a bloody clash between commercial drivers and some traders of Northern extraction on Wednesday was yesterday shattered when some unknown arsonists set ablaze the popular Oja’ba Market in the heart of the town.

It will be recalled that the scuffle started on Tuesday evening between some commercial drivers and some traders of northern extraction, when a wife of one of the drivers was molested and his hand bag stolen around New Garage/Irona area in the state capital.

There is no clue yet as to the people suspected to have carried out the arson despite the fact that the state government had imposed dust-to-dawn curfew in the state capital.

The family of an Anglican Church cleric have decried the response of the police over the rescue of their breadwinner from kidnappers' den.

57-yr-old Louis Nebo was reportedly abducted by some masked gunmen around Umumba Ndi Uno in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state last Saturday.

Rev. Nebo who lives in Aguobu Umumba, was said to be returning from a meeting at a neighbouring community around 5.30am on the fateful day when his captors ambushed him.

Punch reports that the Anglican cleric's family had allegedly paid the sum of N15,000 to the police before the kidnappers contacted the family, demanding N10m ransom.

It was learnt that the reverend’s wife and a member of the church were with the reverend in his car when the gunmen struck. The eight-man bandit reportedly took the pastor into the bush along the road. .
