'To say we're shocked is an understatement': Beachgoers stunned after body of newborn baby is found buried in the sand by two boys as they dug a hole on a busy beach

The suburb of Maroubra, southeast Sydney, is reeling after two boys, aged 6 and 7, found a baby's body in the sand about 10.05am on Sunday. The age and sex of the baby is yet to be confirmed as the child is so badly decomposed. Forensic officers were seen on the beach sifting through the sand for evidence. Maroubra Surf Life Saving is providing counselling for the two boys who discovered the body as well as other surf club members. The news comes just a week after a baby was found alive dumped in a drain in western Sydney. That child's mother has been charged with attempted murder.
