The New Jersey man who fatally slashed 6-year-old Domenick Andujar’s throat while trying to rape the boy’s then 12-year-old sister, Amber Andujar, will be spending the rest of his years behind bars, the Courier-Post reports.
The September 2012 incident occurred two hours into the now 14-year-old girl’s 12th birthday. Osvaldo Rivera, 35, was attempting to sexually assault Amber when her younger brother heard her cries from another room and attempted to rescue her. Sadly, the pint-sized hero was overpowered by Osvaldo, who slashed his throat. Amber was slashed twice by her attacker before she was able to break free and run down the street crying for help.
When emergency responders arrived on the scene they found that she had been slashed so deeply, her vocal cords were visible. In a Camden courtroom last week, Osvaldo was sentenced to 110 years in prison from his crimes, which included charges of murder, attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, burglary and terroristic threats.
Amber, who still bears visible scars from that terrifying night, bravely faced her accuser and spoke out at his sentencing.
“Today I stand here as a survivor,” she said in the courtroom. “Even though he took a part of me away, in the end, you did not win. We won because I made it.”
“I want this animal to suffer,” the children’s mother, Debbie Burgos, expressed Thursday. “He deserves to fear for his life, like my children did in their own home.”
