R. Kelly Breaks Silence On Aaliyah Biopic: “Can’t Nobody Play Me, Homie”

Now that the smoke has settled surrounding Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic, R. Kelly, who held a significant role in the film’s storyline, is breaking his silence about it. As many others who knew the fallen singer personally, Kelly says that he refused to watch it; however, his reason for not doing so was, well, interesting.
“You asked me this question…I didn’t know you was gonna ask me that,” he told Big Tigger. “Listen, I didn’t watch that. Once they said they was making a movie and somebody was gon’ be playing me — can’t nobody play me, homie.”

Apparently, he felt that someone at the network should have called him in to participate in some way—or at the very least, hired an actor who knew him.
“You got to know me to play me. You don’t know me, you can’t play me. It’s impossible. So why should I watch something that’s not real? When I’m real.”
Considering his and Aaliyah’s history and all that went down surrounding production of the biopic, it’s interesting that an actor that didn’t know him being cast is the only thing he had a problem with.
