The ground swallowed her up: Woman 'disappears' through gaping hole in pavement as she walked along a London street

Onlookers reported hearing a loud scream before the woman, who has not been identified but is thought to be in her mid-forties, 'vanished' down the two foot by five foot wide gap (centre and right) in the pavement outside the Marrakech Express cafe on North End Road in Fulham, London (left). Early reports suggested that the woman may have been pushing a pram, but it is thought it could have been a shopping trolley. The London Ambulance service say the woman was 'shaken buy not seriously injured' and she was taken to Charing Cross Hospital.
