No walls, carpetless floors and steel beams: Inside the spectacular homes vying for Australian House of the Year... so is 2015 the year of the concrete SLAB?

Inside the homes vying for Australian House of the Year

A stunning collection of 135 properties are battling it out to be named the Australian House of the Year, including fortress style homes by the coast, radically modern farmhouses and a rainforest haven in tropical north Queensland (bottom right).

Among the multi-million dollar properties is Aireys Inlet, a house located on the Great Ocean Road, southwest of Melbourne (top left), an Adelaide house 'with panoramic city views' (top right) and the aptly named Concrete House in Victoria (bottom left) designed for a commercial builder to live in. In another idyllic rainforest retreat, the wooden furniture matches the property's unique surroundings (inset).
