Bukola Saraki elected as Senate President

Senator Bukola Saraki has been sworn in as Nigeria’s Senate President.

Saraki was said to have been unanimously elected today, June 9, 2015.

This follows a crisis which erupted in the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the party chose Senator Ahmed Lawanas its sole candidate for the position.

Saraki however rejected the nomination and was subsequently endorsed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
