Red umbrella Funke Akindele, Yinka Davies, Tosyn Bucknor, Desmond Elliot, others to walk for Sickle Cell Anaemia Disorder

Nigeria has the highest number of people living with Sickle Cell Anaemia Disorder (SCD) a  traumatic and hereditary blood disorder in the world, affecting between 4 -6 million. Thant means about 1 our of every 45 people in NIgeria live with sicke cell disorder it is estimated an average of 150,000 children are born with SCD each year, out of which only 25% might live which is more out of ignorance than the disorder itself. Moreover 1 in 4 people have the sickle cell trait, which is said create the sickle cell gene.
Despite these statistics, grassroots awareness and support remains an uphill task, especially with regards to advocacy of better treatment (physically and emotionally). The United Nation passed a resolution celebrating June 19 of every year as Sickle Cell Awareness Day, declaring it as a public health problem.
