Retired officers told how at his trial Richard Matt, 48, (bottom left) was watched over by a sniper outside the courtroom, had double the number of guards, was fitted with a stun belt and was kept away from glass for fear he would try to escape.
He made it out of Clinton Correctional Facility (escape route center, being inspector by New York governor Andrew Cuomo) in upstate New York Friday night alongside accomplice David Sweat (top left). But the escape came after a long criminal past, which included a bizarre instance where he was contracted to kill the family of a Warner Bros heiress, including Stanley Sheinbaum and Betty Warner Sheinbaum (bottom right).
