Only Gough could bring them together! Australia's last SEVEN prime ministers pose for a rare photo at Whitlam memorial (but Abbott and Howard were loudly booed by the Labor crowd)

Australia's seven most recent prime ministers have come together for an historic picture, as they put their political differences aside on Wednesday to celebrate the life of trailblazer Gough Whitlam. After attending a memorial service at Sydney's Town Hall, four Labor PMs and three Liberals - including current Prime Minister Tony Abbott - joined forces to take a bi-partisan photograph. From left to right, Malcolm Fraser, Julia Gillard and Bob Hawke stood next to Mr Abbott - who was joined by John Howard, Kevin Rudd and Paul Keating to his left. It was a more convivial picture of Mr Abbott and Mr Hawke, who confronted the current PM upon his arrival at Town Hall in what appeared to be a tense and awkward conversation. Mr Abbott and Mr Howard were booed as they entered the hall shortly prior to the commencement of the memorial for Mr Whitlam, who died last month at the age of 98. A crowd of family, friends and members of the public was moved to tears and to laughter by the speakers, who celebrated Mr Whitlam's transformative reforms and jovial personality. Special guest speaker Cate Blanchett said despite being only a young girl when Mr Whitlam became prime minister, she was hit with a 'great sorrow' over his death.
