MARIAH CAREY’S REP DEFENDS “ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU” PERFORMANCE, SAYS VOICE HEARD ON SHOCKING ISOLATED TRACK ISN’T CAREY’S

We know that Mariah Carey has been having some issues with her voice lately. Specifically, she was widely criticized for her performance of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” for Christmas In Rockefeller Center, and the tree lighting ceremony that is part of it. She sounded a bit off during the performance that we saw, and she sounded way off when the isolated vocals from that performance leaked. Without the musical accompaniment, background singers and noise from the audience, she just couldn’t seem to hit those high notes we’re used to hearing, and simply sounded out of breath and out of it at times. The New York Daily News’ ‘Confidential’ section reported last week that Carey’s camp blamed NBC producers for that leak of the isolated vocals, and they
claimed it was done because Carey kept everyone waiting (including cold fans) on Tuesday evening when they were supposed to record her singing for Wednesday night’s performance. She was reportedly three hours late, and when she did arrive, time was wasted, so producers had to send her home and hope that she could at least do a decent live performance for Wednesday.
But Carey’s rep says that the rumors that blame is being shifted to NBC producers for that leak is not true, and that the voice folks heard on that leaked isolated video isn’t really her at all. Seriously, that’s what they said:
“…because Mariah used a wireless mic, anyone in attendance could have recorded the isolated track. She added, ‘She preformed [sic] beautifully.’”
Considering that the isolated track matches up perfectly to the video of her singing, and sounds exactly like her, I’m having a hard time believing that wasn’t Mimi we were hearing. But what do you think? In case you missed the isolated version of the performance, you can check it out below:
