FG Decries High Rate Of Child Labour

The permanent secretary Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Clement Iloh has called on all parents, guardians including well meaning Nigerians to rise up and defend the future of Nigerian children by ensuring that all forms of child labour in the society are eliminated.
Represented by the director of inspectorate,Mr. Udoh Emmanuel, the permanent secretary disclosed this in a message at a one day rally, to commemorate the 2015 World day against Child Labour in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation, (ILO) with the theme “no to child labour and yes to quality education”.

Illoh explained that child labour is any work that children are exposed to perform which are injurious to their health, morals, physical development, wellbeing as well as denying them the opportunity to attend schools.     “When we use children for any activity such as carrying heavy loads at tender age, hawking and selling on the street or in the markets during school hours, we are indeed practicing child labour,’’ he said
He called on parent to shun all forms of child labour, stressing that “good education will definitely give our children good future.”
He emphasised the need for all Nigerians to recognise that the future belongs to the children and should not allow them to live under the pangs of child labour with its consequent denial to quality education.
The one-day rally and market sensitisation was followed by walk round the major road in Abuja , creating awareness to people and getting to meet and interview some victim of child labour found hawking instead of being in School.
The sensitisation rally was in conjunction with the labour ministry, the UNICEF, ILO, federal ministry of education and other Social partners.
